Strawberries, or, as they are more correctly called, garden strawberries, are a berry crop, occupying the top lines of popularity and the largest areas under berries. Growing strawberries is quite simple, they come into fruiting quickly, and if they are grown according to the rules and not kept more than three or four years, each time changing the area under it, the yields will be high and the berries - really dessert.

In view of the high demand for berries and sprouts, breeders are intensely engaged in breeding more and more new, larger and almost ideal in taste strawberry varieties. At the moment in the State Register of Breeding Achievements there are 93 varieties of strawberries, the first one was included in the State Register quite a long time ago, in 1959, this variety "Beauty Zagorje" . This variety is good, but the new varieties, bred in the last five years, are characterized by more delicious and larger berries, they have increased immunity and give higher yields.

Strawberry varieties of super-early and early maturity.

Strawberry "Balba", this variety is zoned for the North Caucasus region. It is characterized by early maturity and absence of remontant. The plant is very tall, hemispherical type. Whiskers are rather small, they are large and slightly pubescent. Leaflets are quite large, dark green in color. The flower stalks are at the same level as the leaf plates. Strawberries have a cylindrical shape, red color, and their weight varies from 20 to 38 g. Each berry has up to 6.6% of sugars, about a percent of acid and up to 66 mg of ascorbic acid. The taste of the light red flesh is very pleasant. Yields are about 250 quintals per hectare. The variety is drought-resistant and winter-hardy.

Strawberries "Baron Solemacher" is a remontant variety of early maturity. The plant is medium-sized, slightly sprawling. Leaf blades of medium size, light green color. Flower stalks are placed below the leaf blades. The berries are not very large, weighing about four grams, they have a conical shape and are red in color. Each berry contains up to 7.7% sugars, about one percent acid and up to 82.3 mg% ascorbic acid. The taste of red strawberry pulp is quite pleasant. Yields reach 83.5 quintals per hectare. The variety is ideal for private plots.

Strawberry "Viola", zoned in the Volga-Vyatka region, is distinguished by its early maturity and lack of remontant. The bush is small, but quite sprawling. Whiskers of medium length, pale red color. Leaf blades are medium-sized, green. The flower stems are just above the level of the leaf plates. The berries are conical in shape and weigh up to 17 grams. Each berry has up to 6.5% of sugars, one and a half percent of acids, and up to 70 mg% of ascorbic acid. The scarlet flesh of the strawberries has a great taste. The yield of the variety reaches 72 quintals per hectare. The variety is winter-hardy, but resistance to drought is medium.

Strawberries "Zolotinka", it is an early maturing variety, distinguished by remontant. The variety is ideal for growing in homesteads. The plant is upright and has an average strength of growth. A definite plus is the absence of whiskers. Leaf blades of medium size, green coloration. The flower stems are placed above the level of the leaf plates. Berries have a conical shape and white-yellow color, the weight of berries is quite modest - about two grams. The berries strawberries have up to 8% of sugars, about a percentage of acids and up to 82.5 mg% of ascorbic acid. The taste of the berries is very pleasant. Despite the more than modest weight of berries, the yield per hectare is very high and reaches 76 quintals. The variety is winter-hardy, drought-resistant and heat-resistant.

Strawberries "Yoshkarolinka" , characterized by early maturity, sprawling and medium foliage of the bush. The whiskers are rather few and small. Leaflets are medium-sized, light green in color. The peduncles are at the level of the leaf blades. The berries are conical in shape and weigh about eight grams. They are red in color. Each berry has up to 10.2 percent of sugars and about one and a half percent of acids. The taste is quite pleasant, but the acidity is perceptible. The flesh of the berry has an orange-red color, it is quite juicy. The yield per hectare is good, reaching 193 quintals. The variety is winter-hardy and drought-resistant.

Strawberries "Crimean early" , zoned for the North Caucasus region and is distinguished by its early maturity and lack of remontant. Plants have a hemispherical shape, produce an average number of whiskers and form fairly large green leaf blades. The flower stalks are at the same level as the leaf blades. Ripe strawberries are diamond-shaped and scarlet, weighing up to 11 grams. Each berry has up to 7.7% of sugars, just over a percentage of acids and up to 125 mg% of ascorbic acid. The taste of the berries is quite pleasant, the aroma is felt. The yield of the variety reaches 111 quintals per hectare. Winter-hardy and drought-resistant variety.

Strawberries "Crimean repairant" , this variety is zoned in the North Caucasus region, it is distinguished by early maturation and repairant. The plant is upright, gives many thick whiskers and forms medium-sized leaf blades of dark green color. The flower stems are slightly below the level of the leaf blades. The ripe berries are wide-tupoconic in shape and scarlet in color. The weight of each berry varies from 7.0 to 32 g. Each berry has up to 6.7% of sugars and a little more than one percent acid. The taste is pleasant and the tasting score is 4.2. Yield varieties reach 110 hundredweight per hectare.

Strawberry Ksanor ", this variety zoned in the North Caucasus region, it is characterized by early maturity and lack of remontant. Plants of the variety of medium strength and spherical shape, form an average number of whiskers and medium-sized leaf laminae of dark green color. The flower stems are just below the level of the leaf blades. Fully ripe strawberries are cylindrical in shape, scarlet in color, and vary in weight from 15.5 to 34 grams. Each berry has up to 6.2% sugars, about one percent acid, and up to 69 mg% vitamin C. The taste of the berries is quite pleasant (4.4 points). Yields are good, reaching 203 quintals per hectare. The variety is winter-hardy and heat-resistant.

Strawberry "Lyubava", super-early ripeness, sprawling and medium-grown, forming an average number of whiskers and average, green-colored, leafy plates. The berries at full maturity are conical in shape and scarlet in color. Weight of berries varies from 19 to 38 g. Strawberry Juniol , zoned for the North Caucasus region, this variety is distinguished by its early maturity and lack of remontant. The plant is not tall, forms an average number of whiskers and medium-sized green leaflets. The flower stems are at the same height as the leaf blades. The berries strawberries at full maturity are conical in shape and scarlet in color. The weight of the berries varies from 11 to 32 grams. Each berry has up to 8% of sugars, about 0.7% of acids, and up to 78 mg% of vitamin C. The taste of the dark red, juicy flesh of the berries is very pleasant, refreshing and sour-sweet. The taste is rated by tasters at 4.9 out of a possible five points. The berries are excellent fresh and suitable for many different types of processing, including the wine. The maximum yield on a nutritious soil reaches 150 quintals per hectare. Strawberry varieties are winter-hardy and heat-tolerant, but their drought tolerance is medium.

Strawberry varieties of medium early and medium maturity.

Strawberry "Alyonushka", this variety is zoned in the West Siberian region. It is characterized by medium maturity and lack of remontant. The plant is powerful, sprawling, strongly pubescent. The length of the mustache is medium and quite a lot of them. Leaf blades of medium size, slightly wrinkled, green. Flower stalks are located below the level of leaf blades, with sparse pubescence. Berries varieties globular, red. Berries contain up to 6.5% of sugars, about 0.7% of acids and up to 42 mg% of ascorbic acid. Weight of berries varies from 7 to 21 grams, and yield reaches 101 hundredweight per hectare. The taste of the berries is pleasant, although the acid can be felt. The variety is heat-resistant and winter-hardy.

Strawberry "Anna", the variety is zoned for the West Siberian region. This variety is characterized by medium maturity and excellent taste. Remontaneity is absent. The plant is medium-sized, fairly compact. Whiskers of medium length, their number is numerous. Wrinkle leaflets are strongly expressed, they are quite large, green in color. Inflorescences are located below the level of leaf blades. Weight of berries varies from 7 to 19.2 grams. The shape of the berries is ovoid, the coloration is orange-red. Wima Kimberly strawberries , this variety is zoned for the Central region, characterized by the medium period of ripeness and lack of remontant. The plant is very powerful, spreading strongly. The whiskers are medium-sized, red in color. Leaflets rather large, light green. The peduncles are placed at the level of the leaf blades. The berries are conical in shape, orange-red in color. Each berry has up to ten percent sugar. The weight of berries ranges from 18 to 36 grams, and the yield reaches 152 quintals per hectare. The taste is very pleasant, rated at the highest grade. The variety is drought-resistant and winter-hardy.

Fully ripe berries are conical in shape, dark red in color and have a noticeable shine on the surface. The weight of strawberries varies from 9 to 17.5 grams, and yields reach 65 quintals per hectare. Each berry has up to 5% of sugars, about a percentage of acids and up to 65 mg% of ascorbic acid. The dark red flesh of the berries is quite tasty and quite juicy. The berries are great as fresh and suitable for a variety of processing, including for wine. The variety is winter-hardy and drought-resistant.

Strawberry "Zaluchevskaya", this variety is zoned in the West Siberian region, characterized by the medium early period of ripeness and lack of remontant. The plant is oriented vertically and has a compact size. Mustache with a pronounced anthocyanin color. Leaf blades medium, greenish. Flower stalks are placed above the level of the leaf blades. The taste of orange-red strawberry pulp is pleasant, sour-sweet (4.7 points). The maximum yield reaches 64 quintals per hectare. The variety is winter-hardy, heat-resistant and drought-resistant, and is also highly resistant to diseases and pests.
